Anyway, I'm back and I've got a new cover here today. This is a song I played for a recent worship set and I thought this was a very great song that highlights the beauty of dotted 8th delays, bright open chords and chord walkdowns.
This is the closest the Chinese worship ever got to Hillsong-ish related songs. This is also by far one of the most enjoyable to play. I'll go through some of the parts that makes this song so exciting!
Firstly, the effects I used is the DLX + JTM45 patch by Worship Tutorials. It has been my favourite patch since the start because it really highlights the brightness of single-coil guitars! Used only one setting for the entire song. Heavy distortion with the famous dotted 8th delay.
The main riff of the song utilises that dotted 8th delay effect to the maximum. Huge strong reflects echoes through the song. Verse is palm mutes which are actually very tough to follow, in fact I lost count a few times in the video!
Chorus is open chords, very huge vibe when paired with dotted 8th. There's a walkdown in the 2nd part of the chorus which makes the electric guitar stand out from the other instruments in the band. Bridge is played with power chords, to signify a certain hollowness in the sound so the vocals can fill in and build up!
In fact, it was just this morning that I played the song and received positive remarks on the tone. Maybe it doesn't sound as good in the video but it sure sounded amazing on stage today! Well, and that's all for this post!
Time for my New Zealand backpacking trip! See you next year!
