In January 2021, I did nothing!!! HAHAHA!! Legit man, I did nothing in January because Covid-19 is at its peak and everyone was advised to stay at home. Had no motivations to play guitar or make music at all. It was a devastating period for sure.
In February 2021, I recorded my first guitar cover of 2021. A revisit to one of my favourite songs called This Is Amazing Grace. I loved the fact that I could now play rhythm guitar, acoustic and bass, and splice everything into a single video. Super love how Phil Wickham pieced the song together.
March 2021 was where it all began again. Someone bought the Red Fulltone OCD off my hands and I used the money to purchase the True Tone CS6, resulting in my decision to build a pedalboard with HX Stomp as the foundation. Going further into March, the Dunlop Volume pedal made its way into my life and the pedalboard began to take shape.
Next, April 2021 saw the addition of 2 more pedals necessary to build the board. The Scarlett Love was essential to fit the space of a horizontal pedal while the SP Compressor was needed for compression needs. I also purchased a Sony CX405 camera that I seldom use (arghhh).
In May 2021, I had to trade a pair of pedals for another pair of pedals. The Snake Oil pedals weren't what I was looking for in this board, so I got an EHX Soul Food to stand in temporarily. I have to say, the board is looking pretty impressive for just 3 months of purchases.
Covid-19 restrictions came back in June after cases rose exponentially due to a new variant in the virus. Life came to a halt again and so did my music journey. I was stuck once again and had no motivations. So I did a little planning and hoping for the future in June.
July 2021 wasn't any better. The restrictions were still in place and many events were cancelled. Occasionally touched the guitar and that's it. Work in camp was ever so crazy. I was preparing for Exercises back to back weekly and was working late most of the days. I just simply didn't have the time!
Next arrives August 2021. In August, things were beginning to pick up pace as restrictions lift with more and more people getting vaccinated. I did a little planning again and planned to restructure my gear to prepare for 2022. In August, I knew exactly where I'll be heading in the year 2022.
Things escalated quickly in September 2021. I made so many purchases in September that the few months that went past felt like nothing. I bought two different amps and two new pedals to try. The Prism and Distortron brought so much joy to me, while the Katana and Headrush amps gave me a taste of amp-in-the-room sounds again!
In October 2021, I learnt of new modellers like the Hotone Ampero One and was instantly interested. I sold off the Soul Food and Scarlett Love in October too. I also got myself a brand new wireless unit called the Boss WL-50. My restructuring vision of my pedalboard came to pass in October.
My M1 Pro MacBook Pro arrived in late November 2021 and I managed to take a lot of awesome photos of my gear. The pedalboard is completed in November and there is nothing I would change about it anymore. It is the perfect board to hit up 2022 with!!!
December 2021 was once again filled with incoming gear! I bought Helix Native and the Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen to make full use of the M1 Pro MacBook capabilities. I also got my very first guitar pedal in a trade stemmed from an unfortunate event on stage. In December 2021, I also made the critical decision to leave the Chinese Adults worship team in Grace Assembly for the sake of my walk with God.
Even at these last days (of 2021), I managed to sell off some gear that haven't seen usage in a while.
On the 29th, I managed to sell off the Jackson Audio Prism for $200. The reason for the lowered price was Christmas; gotta bless someone right! On the 31st, I sold off the Headrush FRFR-108 for $270. These two pieces of gear have been collecting dust for quite a while so they just had to go.
Moving on, 2022 will be a year of transitions for me. I'll type out my goals in a separate post. I can't wait for 2022 already!!!
