I shall make this quick and easy to understand so bear with me. For effects and preset recalling, I have already covered it with the Helix Floor so go take a look there if you haven't! I'll talk more about changing of modes and the extra 2 invisible footswitches!
As seen, this is how I programmed my space shuttle to be. So many controls at my fingertips! Basically, I won't be naming each footswitch to a specific role because unlike in Helix Floor where there are already scribble strips or indicators to help me identify what they do, the HX Stomp's footswitches is a real multi-tasker!
Let's start with the simple configuration first:
Same thing with Helix Floor. Go to Global Settings by pressing both "page" buttons together and mouse over right to the MIDI/Tempo setting. Check that "MIDI Base Channel" is at "1" by default and "USB MIDI" is on.
Now move over to the Footswitches setting. Footswitch 3, 4 and 5 are up to your customisation. Change them however you like because they are real good at multi-tasking anyway.

Now on to lesson proper. Here's how you get the HX Stomp to change footswitch modes:
If you arrived from reading what I typed about the Helix Floor, you will know that whatever I'm doing is the same thing as what I did in that post. For those who don't, I'll still explain. With reference to the almighty chart, engaging Preset Mode for the HX Stomp is commanded by CC#71 encompassing the value #2.
Again, because the HX Stomp was born in a different dimension, we have to +1 on the CC value, hence the control number is 72. The up and down values must be the same and it must be "2" for the mode to be in preset mode. Don't ask me why; Line 6 wanted it that way.
Same goes for Stomp mode. Required command is CC#71 too but the encompassing value is now #1, according to the chart. So here I input 72 again and set both up and down values to "1". Notice how I used the "Pad" trigger here; we can't have two modes at any single time therefore a radio-button-type control.
The exact same goes for Snapshot mode; you do the Maths. Encompassing value would be "4".
And then it's time to mode change or what some call mode scroll. This function is denoted by the "toggle" trigger because "pad" trigger always skips the adjacent mode. Not sure why too. Observe carefully the command number and up/down values.
Now we move on to utilising the 2 invisible footswitches:
Here in this demo I will be using a stripped-down version of my DLX + JTM45 patch seen on my Line 6 Helix Floor. I logged on to HX Edit on my laptop and assigned FS4 to turn bypass one amp and FS5 to bypass the other. There's no easier way to do this than with HX Edit so just make it quick.
Now that my FS4 and FS5 have something to do, I will program Midipad2 to send messages regarding these 2 footswitches.
Footswitch 5 have it's control number set at "54" because the chart says that it's command is CC#53. Up and down values stay random because of FS5 being on/off switches only. Same thing goes on for FS4.
Then we talk about this unusual setting called the BYPASS. It is only found on the HX Stomp. HX Stomp is a pedal after all and most people are going to place it on their board. So if the other pedals can do bypass, the HX Stomp must too!
I only need to turn on the bypass with MIDI because any other switch will turn the bypass off. It is programmed to be a big red button at a corner of my commands because bypass doesn't mean mute and noise still can pass through.
The bottom three commands basically recalls my favourite presets and just follow the chart to know their respective CC values.
And there you have it: HX Stomp receiving instructions from Midipad2. Nice huh?
