ðŸ“ą MIDI & Helix Part 3 - Endless Possibilities

There's never a bad time for this chart.
Welcome to the final part of my super impromptu tutorial!

There's just so much to explore using Midipad2 running alongside any form of Helix. The final few tricks I have up my sleeves are changing parameters using MIDI. To do that we have to go into HX Edit again. One thing at a time...

I've created a sample patch containing only 1 effect for this demo. As seen from this picture above, CC#4 is the lowest control command I can assign to anything because CC#1, CC#2 and CC#3 are all used by pre-programmed commands already. So please don't be surprised if certain numbers are missing.

To assign a particular effect to your chosen MIDI number is real simple. Just go to HX Edit and perform a change in controller assign for that effect. Bypass is the default parameter but you can also choose other parameters to change!

For example here, I have assigned Channel Volume control and Master Volume control to a single command CC#5. So when Midipad2 sends a command under CC#2, both channel and master volume will change accordingly. Pretty cool!

The encompassing values from #0 to #127 inside Midipad2 signifies the range from the minimum to maximum value. #0 is 0% of the sweep while #127 is 100% of the sweep (Try to get it please? HAHAHA).

There is no limit as to how many parameters you can change via a single CC number!!!

Remember that HX Stomp can only hold 6 blocks at the moment? Ever lamented that 6 is too little for half a full Helix? With the MIDI command things couldn't get easier. For me, I used both my amps' drive settings to create distortion instead of using distortion blocks.

I can just simply assign the drive control to let's say CC#100, and in this very case once I toggle the command on Midipad2 my drive will shoot up to 9. Pretty cool right?

And so I've come to the end of my little tutorial. I really hope this turns out as good as if I were to speak on YouTube because I am really rather shy in real life. I do believe that I have only scratched the surface of what appears to be endless possibilities surrounding this setup!

My job here is done. I am passing on the baton to you. Take my setup one step further. Discover more goodness in whatever that follows and create more tutorials helping one another. Never stop sharing knowledge. I am a nobody that only discovered a small goodness. Only with a community am I somebody who can impart this skill.

After all, it is the Line 6 Helix that brought us all together.

  1. WOW!! Your vision is one that may revolutionize the flexibility of Helix. I'm looking forward to a simplistic video series on this topic. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Well, I'll allow someone else to do the video honours, someone who have way more experience talking on screen than myself. :)
