As with every band CCA, there are plenty of gigs to play and perform. The purpose of this post is to highlight some key events in my first ever gig with total strangers I’ve just met few months back. The gig is called Freshmen Showcase 2023, aimed to let all new freshmen perform and show off some skills.
This is my band, called What’s For Supper? No, I didn’t choose them; I was allocated to this band. And no, I didn’t choose to be bassist, but I was needed for my bass skills because there were already two other electric guitarists in the band. Although I have to say, it’s been a real honour playing for this band.
We were also allocated the Indie genre and that really helped us in our song choices. Basically, I was fine with any song because bass guitar parts are the easiest to adapt and change. So I left it up to the vocalists to choose songs in their vocal range.
First song was Somewhere Only We Know. For my part, it was a pretty straightforward chord progression in the key of A. I added fill-in notes whenever there was space for me to do so. Quite fun honestly. The Fender Precision Bass was a nice touch compared to my own short-scale bass.
Second song was Come Inside My Heart. It's a very fun song on the bass because I got to play a lot more than just root notes. Although my timing during the chorus really gotta improve! It was a fairly straightforward and cheery song!
Last song was As It Was. We improvised a little at the start by slowing the song down and playing it a little jazzy, so that we can thank the audience for coming. Then we turned the dial up to 11 and played the original speed and energy!
It was a crazy crazy night. Met so many new people and checked out so many guitars and pedalboards!!! I have to say, I might just stay in this CCA instead of rock climbing, but we'll see. I just love music!!!!!
