ðŸŒą Crazy Fun 2018

What else can I say? I went from happy at the start of this year to well, really really happy at the end of the year. I was blessed with a lot at the start, but now even more as 2018 comes to a close. It's been one super exciting ride and I'm glad it all worked out well.

This was the view in January. After 2 years of research and running around meeting other guitarists for Carousell deals, I ended up with this super awesome pedalboard. It's quite a colourful board aesthetically and honestly, sonically too! In January, I also saw the best acoustic guitar enter my life. The Yamaha FSX830C was the best decision I've ever made because I just love the sound of it so so much. Won't ever hesitate to get the exact same model in the future again!

February was a little less overwhelming for me. I bought a 2nd-hand hard-to-find pedal called the Analogman Prince of Tone. It is there to cover the thick mids I missed from having a Tubescreamer. This is one very versatile pedal. Also bought a Shure SM57 mic to try some mic-ed recordings. Saw the departure of the Gretsch G5420T due to its huge uncomfortable neck. It was nice having a hollow-body for a change.

March was a very exciting month in 2018. One more guitar left me but two new ones took its place. The Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster got replaced by a Fender FSR Ash Telecaster which was as stunning as every other Butterscotch Tele. Vintage Noiseless pickups are killer! Next, a new view known as the PRS SE Custom 24 Zebrawood joined in. Wanted a PRS for so long and finally found one that looks absolutely stunning! Put on pickup covers and changed to locking tuners for this one. It easily became one of my favourites so far!

April was again a very peaceful month after a super happening month. The only thing I did was record a few clips and covers with my new gear. Had so much fun doing so. Was quite busy with army driving course in that month so I didn't really get to blog much. April was the last month I fully enjoyed all my gear because most of it gonna go in May!

Line 6 Helix!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, May was the month everything changed in my life. Everything that I worked hard to achieve for the past 3 years just got replaced by a single modeler. Wow! I sold off so many gear that I lost count. Basically half my analog board disappeared, my old acoustic disappear, even the PRS SE Custom 24 disappeared just to make way for Helix. Got myself a Pedaltrain Nano to house the remaining pedals. It was a gear-heavy month as I ran here and there to make ends meet!

June saw me starting my plans to get a custom guitar built to my own taste. Saw the introduction of the baby Yamaha to get me something to play in camp! June saw me enjoying my life with the Line 6 Helix on board. More pedals got sold because the Helix is just too powerful. Every single day I just looked forward to going home and play guitar! It was the start of my SAF career and everything looked bright from that month!

July saw me desperately getting rid of my remaining gear. I just had the sudden realisation that the Line 6 Helix is all I ever need. I am not even using anything else. Recorded a few more videos with my Fender FSR Telecaster and was so happy. July also started me with serving in the Chinese Adults church band. My journey started there and the Helix is proving itself to be very useful on stage!

August was a month of great planning and ordering, and a little selling. Got rid of the last of my pedals and I'm kinda chill at this point. Thinking that this would be the best time to start on my dream guitar, I did my research and placed my orders. Things are looking real exciting at this point in time.

September was a little less happening than the other months. I got rid of the FSR Telecaster to make way for my new Thinline Telecaster that is coming in. Some parts like the Fender locking tuners and string trees arrived in September. Manage to do a guitar cover with just one take; achievement unlocked!

October was the busiest time of my music life. So much crazy just happened in October. My dream guitar got assembled and although assembly was a little screwed up, this guitar just happens to be the best one I've ever played in my life. I also took the chance to get into wireless guitaring with the Line 6 G10.

Perhaps the most unimaginable was the introduction of the Line 6 HX Stomp. Being low on cash with the Edcaster arriving, I still managed to pull some funds for the brand new HX Stomp. Knowing I have a Helix Floor, I still got the Stomp due to my positive instincts about it. I don't even know why I did that but in future it will prove itself.

November was rather chill also. I finally took some time off guitar and music to relax a little after such a hectic period of building my guitar. It was in this month that I decided to stop serving as guitarist in the Chinese Adults ministry. After a few months in it, I figured I would still be happier playing English church songs. Somehow recorded a guitar cover that I would say is the best of everything I have right now.

Ended the year with a super chill December. The only crazy thing in December is I've sold off my Deluxe Stratocaster on Christmas day. I'm beginning to rely solely on my Edcaster so there goes the Strat. December was a month of self-reflection and future planning. I also started my army specialist course in December, rendering me "busy" for the following months.

In summary, 2018 has been an amazing year. I've seen so much change to my gear and I am really thankful to be able to reach where I am today. As 2019 draws near, I just want to announce that I had so much fun in 2018 and I can't wait for what's in store in 2019!

📖 Psalm 95:1-2

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.
