🎎 Let Praise Awaken Cover v1.0

I haven't recorded full song covers in such a long long time. I didn't plan to do it anytime soon because I am busy learning licks from GnR. But, today, in the morning, someone texted me with an important message, one so important that I will have to hardcore practice guitar for the next few days. Here's why...

2 years ago, I signed up for an audition into my church band called CAMY (Creative Arts Ministry -  Youth). With my then few months worth of experience and zero music theory knowledge, I went and got rejected. These 2 years, I practiced hard, just to prepare for the big day that is to come again. I went beyond what I originally just wanted to learn, I dug out music theory from Google, I went through a lot of research and hard work, all for the big day. And, that big day is 9 days from now. I have waited 2 long years and finally it's here. The text message today had me so overwhelmed, 9 days, what can I achieve in 9 days? Well, I don't, I have already achieved what I needed. I just need preparation. And this song, Let Praise Awaken (by Planetshakers), is one of the 3 songs I will be auditioned on.

To be honest, there are 2 compulsory songs and 1 song of my choice. Let Praise Awaken is a song of my own choice so yeah, I will probably post the other 2 songs sometime this week. I chose this song because it is one of my most confident songs. I can even sing along because I'm that confident. Singing along is hard, well, it's just like talking to your mom while watching a TV show.

Without further ado, check out the cover here!

BREAKING NEWS!!! UPDATE AS OF 31st January 2016: I just realized I tuned my guitar half step down during the recording. I figured something seems amiss but couldn't point it out. Then as I was playing Sweet Child of Mine just now, I realised that. Man, how careless can I be? Pardon me for this one. Version 2.0 in the making...

And just for the sake of my audition on 7th Feb, I might need to look at my pedal and amp settings again. So I might as well just share my settings.

This is the only pedal I used in the recording. I used more overdrive than distortion to make it sound fuller.

On a side note, I really am nervous for my audition. It's the same feeling performers say that no matter how much experience they have, be it 4 years or 40 years, every moment before a performance they will still be nervous. But as each experience stack, you can lean back on those experiences to reduce the nervousness. I do not have much experience, but I definitely have memories, wonderful memories, that can fuel me out of nervousness too! Some memories are encased in these guitar picks:

Each and every one of the picks depict an important event in my life. By carrying them around for every performance I will participate in, I will know that these emotions that I lean on are real. 3 of the picks in this photo (the MINES one, the red M with white background one, and the one with the "When The Spirit Comes" wordings) are picks which gives me confidence in the Christian songs I play. Those 3 are cut out from room key cards with my pick cutter. The 3 different hotels are the 3 different years I went to church retreat and brought the card home. Each retreat I visioned myself standing on that stage, serving God in another country. That, is the driving force behind my music passion.

Okay, I better not talk too much else I will have nothing to say for the next few posts. Stay tuned for the next 2 posts that I might be posting this coming week (no promise as I've got a lot on my hands right now). The songs will be.........for you to find out. :p

Have a good day! Cheers!

📖 Psalm 95:1-2

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.
