ðŸ”Ĩ GAS Strikes Again - Part 1

Maybe Christmas came early, but I'm back with a more severe Gear Acquisition Syndrome this time. I recently signed on for military life and will be a soldier for the next 5 years. So I am more well off in terms of finance than I ever was in my life. With this money, it is easy to understand how my GAS slowly returns...

This time, I upgraded one of my pedals and finally purchased an audio interface. It all happened when I decided to take the plunge on eBay on 18th November 2017. I never wanted to order from eBay because of the risk but this deal was too tough to let go.

Seller was kind enough to send me 3 flathead patch cables for free!
I have been wanting to upgrade to a reverb with the shimmer effect a long time ago. But pedals like BlueSky or BigSky or the M300 are crazy expensive. Then somehow, TC Electronic decided to produce a Hall of Fame 2 with shimmer, and that's what sold me. What could be better than having shimmer in a pedal that I am quite familiar with?

So on 18th November, I ordered the HoF 2 on eBay for S$200 and got it shipped via USPS mail. Then I went to sell the HoF 1 on 24th November 2017 for $130, $20 lesser than what I originally got it for. Things are looking great!!!

The HoF 2 also comes with a new feature: The Mash Footswitch. The Mash function is essentially a built-in expression pedal. It is larger than a normal footswitch for comfort purposes. I have tried it out and the function is amazing. TC Electronic has achieved breakthrough once again.

After a long long wait (as usual with international products), it finally arrived on 28th November 2017. Not bad though, considering it only took about 10 days from order to delivery. This eBay seller is legit so kind that he included 3 flathead patch cables for me. Handy!

Fast forward to 2nd December 2017, I made another purchase. This time, I obtained one of my most sought after gear: The Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 Audio Interface. Finally I am able to record guitar no matter how noisy my environment is. Finally I can record quality sounds!!!

I went over to Swee Lee in the afternoon and promptly grabbed the 2i4 off the shelf. I have done so much research over the past few months on this particular model that I didn't even have to ask any more questions. Quick and simple payment and I'm out with a sleek red interface.

The casing of this audio interface is so so cool. Classy and sexy look and feel. The general difference between the 2i2 and 2i4 is the amount of outputs and the Pad function. I feel that I am more comfortable having the Pad function so I chose the 2i4.

Considering this is one of the most professional interfaces at this price range, I can't wait to record my first video with it. For now, I have to slowly plan my weekends and learn how to use the DAW before I can even start recording. But with this 2i4, I can finally record covers no matter how noisy my background is. :)

With a purchase there should be money coming in elsewhere, and that points to the sale of my EHX Soul Food today. I finally decide that I'm never ever gonna use my Soul Food since the 3 drives I have now is damn good. Sold it for $70, just $30 lesser than what I bought it for. Not bad for a good amount of usage.

And that's all for this post. If you are wondering why there's a "Part One" in the post title, yes, there's gonna be a part two. Because time literally passes only on weekends as weekdays I'm inside Pulau Tekong. So all these gear changes took place over a few weeks, not just days. Part Two will consist of probably another pedal and a new amplifier!

Stay tuned!

***Update as of 14th August 2018: The TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2 is no longer with me. It has been sold for $180.

***Update as of 17th October 2018: The Focusrite 2i4 is no longer with me. It has been sold for $170. Line 6 Helix serves as an excellent audio interface that beats the 2i4 hands down.
